FILLERS

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers (Dermal fillers)
In the past dermal fillers were used just to fill out wrinkles. With gathering evidence and clinical studies have now shown us that when we age, we lose volume in our faces. Not only that but the entire structure of our skeleton changes. Dermal filler are now used to address this by filling up the areas that have lost volume.
In so doing, it not only attenuates wrinkles, but also lifts the face to a more youthful appearance.
An intimate knowledge of anatomy, the aging process, technical skill and aesthetic judgement is needed to produce reliable, consistent, and natural looking results. Dr Geoffreys’ many years of specialist training, in addition to numerous external courses on dermal filler techniques allows him to make the clinical and aesthetic decisions best suited for your needs.
1) What is HA (Hyaluronic acid)?
HA is found in all mammalian tissue and is identical in all mammals. It is essentially a carbohydrate that is found in the spaced between your cells. This molecule causes the water between your cells to be jelly like instead of water like, providing the tutor needed to support your tissues.
2) Where does it come from?
Originally produced from the combs of roosters, it is now produced in a lab under stringent protocols by bacterial fermentation.
Essentially this produces long chains of HA which when injected into tissues would be absorbed in 24 hours. Therefore the molecule undergoes further stabilization and cross linking to allow it to retain water and last much longer.
3) How long does it last?
Fillers last for anywhere between 9 and 24 months. The reason for such a large discrepancy is because there are so many factors contributing to absorption. Firstly it is important to note that filler is eventually 100% reabsorbed with time.
Factors that contribute to absorption relate the the product itself such as about of cross liking and the volume injected. Also the area that’s injected play a role and so does the patients own metabolism.
